Another group that helped in the creation of the “Multiple Sclerosis Center of Excellence” is the MS Bridge. They are having this fundraiser to help support Oklahomans with MS.
According to their website MS Bridge, among the functions they provide is financial support to those that can’t cover the cost of medications, even if they have insurance. I agree the cost can be staggering for some with multiple sclerosis. While there are several medications that slow the progression of the disease they cost $3500 or more per month without insurance. The new oral medication costs $48,000 per year. A quote from their website is a real life example:
“Each month I spend on average $2300 out of pocket on medications to control my symptoms. Insurance helps, but even with assistance the cost is overwhelming. The drugs and other treatments have stalled my disease and I can’t imagine my life without them. This is the only way I can function.” Lori Evans, MS Patient, MS Center of Excellence.
“The MS Bridge will have a benefit concert, Musical Moments, at 6 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Gaillardia Golf and Country Club. The event includes dinner and a special performance by jazz pianist and Steinway artist Joe Augustine.
Other performers for the evening are local physicians and pianists, Dr. Gilbert Haas, Dr. J. Spencer Thompson and the Canterbury Choral Society Octet.
The event will benefit The MS Bridge, an Oklahoma based nonprofit organization that provides assistance to Oklahomans with multiple sclerosis. MS Bridge also supports research at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation’s Multiple Sclerosis Center of Excellence.”
